Officers praised for saving man's life following Liverpool v Bayern Munich match

Officers have been praised for their assistance in saving a man’s life when he was taken ill after the Liverpool v Bayern Munich match on Tuesday, 19 February.

At around 10pm, a 71-year-old man suffered a medical episode outside the Valley pub in Everton Valley and was not breathing. While waiting for an ambulance, six officers issued CPR and used a defibrillator on the male, who began to breathe again. The ambulance arrived and the man was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Officers involved have since been to visit the man in hospital who is now in a stable condition.

Chief Constable Andy Cooke said: “The swift actions of these officers while waiting for the ambulance service effectively saved a man’s life on Tuesday evening and I am extremely proud of them.

“Incidents such as this highlight the importance of the emergency services working closely together and the officers involved are a credit to the force. They have since visited the gentleman in hospital who is in a stable condition and we wish him a full recovery and all the best for the future."
